What you'll do

The Senior Release Manager is responsible for planning, coordinating, and continuously improving software release processes across multiple teams and systems. The role operates with a high degree of autonomy, handles complex delivery situations, and balances multiple technical and organizational alternatives. The position contributes directly to delivery reliability, compliance, and quality, while also mentoring junior professionals and supporting continuous improvement initiatives across the organization.

Key Responsibilities Release Management & Delivery
  • Plan, coordinate, execute, and monitor software releases in alignment with established release and change management processes.
  • Manage complex release scenarios involving multiple systems, teams, and dependencies.
  • Identify, assess, and mitigate release risks; drive resolution of release-related issues and conflicts.
  • Ensure releases meet quality, compliance, and audit requirements.
  • Act as a key interface between development, QA, operations, and other stakeholders during release cycles.
Process Management & Continuous Improvement
  • Implement, monitor, and improve release, development, and quality assurance processes.
  • Drive automation of release-related activities where feasible to improve reliability and speed.
  • Analyze performance metrics, incidents, and retrospectives to propose and implement process improvements of low to medium complexity.
  • Ensure consistent application of standards, tools, and best practices across teams.
Software Development Support
  • Guide and mentor development teams on release readiness, DevOps practices, and process compliance.
  • Support teams in improving working methods, delivery predictability, and cross-team collaboration.
  • Promote Agile and DevOps principles in day-to-day release operations.
  • Act as a trusted advisor for release-related decisions at team and program level.
Complexity & Autonomy
  • Addresses situations of higher complexity with multiple viable approaches that must be evaluated.
  • Operates independently in most situations, requiring minimal guidance.
  • Makes informed trade-offs between delivery speed, quality, risk, and compliance.
  • Influences practices beyond a single team or project.

Qualifications, Skills & Experience
  • 3+ years’ experience in Release Management, Process Management, or a closely related software delivery role.
  • Proven experience handling medium-to-high complexity release scenarios.
  • Experience working across multiple teams in Agile or hybrid delivery environments.
Software Development & Process Knowledge
  • Extensive practical experience with Agile software development methodologies (e.g., Scrum, Kanban, SAFe).
  • Strong understanding of the software development life cycle (SDLC), requirements engineering, quality assurance, and certification schemes.
  • Relevant certifications such as PSM, PSPO, PSPM, ITIL, or similar are desirable.
Tools & Technical Understanding
  • Good knowledge of standard software development and release tools (e.g., CI/CD pipelines, version control, issue tracking).
  • Confident handling of data structures relevant to release and process reporting.
  • Basic understanding of system architecture and environment dependencies.
Project, Change & Agile Management
  • Project management experience as an active participant in small to medium-sized projects.
  • Solid theoretical knowledge of change management and agile working methods.
  • Practical experience applying agile tools and techniques in a release or delivery context.
