Abacus360 Banking is an established standard software solution for regulatory reporting in various jurisdictions with a broad customer base in Europe. Numerous modules for regulatory and statistical reporting, granular and ad-hoc reporting are available. Due to the use of one single data model that is used by all reporting, risk, and finance applications, Abacus360 Banking enables data consistency across departments required by BCBS 239. Flexible deployment scenarios allow for on-site installation, Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) or complete business process outsourcing (BPO). The sustainable and modern IT architecture based on latest technologies facilitates cost-effectively meeting of future requirements in terms of data volume and change frequency. Extensive services such as consulting, training, comprehensive support and regular user groups complete the overall package.

Meeting regulatory requirements is more than just reporting. With Abacus360 Banking, financial institutions can combine the functions for reporting, risk calculation and controlling of regulatory KPIs on one powerful platform. In addition to the extensive functionalities for reporting, the platform can be extended with risk modules (Abacus360 Banking Risk) and Abacus360 Designer Tools.

By integrating these different functional areas on one platform with a single data model, Abacus360 Banking can increase the efficiency of regulatory processes, the transparency and quality of the data, and the agility in terms of a faster implementation of new regulatory requirements.

More than mere reporting - 360° solution for reporting, risk management and analytics

Abacus360 Banking is a further development of Regnology‘s tried-and-tested Abacus platform. The Abacus360 platform offers a new and innovative calculation engine, which leverages technologies such as in-memory processing and distributed computing, and therefore allows for a significant improvement in operational performance and flexibility.

Abacus360 Banking features an optimized and standardized data model that minimizes redundant data storage through the consolidation of results data across all modules. The software is available in many languages and different versions and offers multi GAAP processing. The Abacus360 data model allows for long-term data maintenance even in light of the ever-changing conditions.

Due to the single data model, the engine functionalities, and the Designer Tools, Abacus360 Banking is “ready” for BCBS 239. A key BCBS 239 requirement, namely interdivisional data consistency, is fulfilled.

Abacus360 Designer Tools

The Abacus360 Designer Tools include the Calculation Designer, the Data Model Designer and the Template Designer. All three Designer Tools are fully integrated into our Abacus360 Banking solution and enable customers to leverage data from the Abacus360 Banking database for extended external or internal reporting purposes. With the Designer Tools clients can increase the use of regulatory data. In a fast and cost-efficient time-to-market way, the Designer Tools allow our clients to:

  • respond to extended external and internal reporting requirements
  • use the same stable and reliable tools used by the Abacus360 Banking development team
  • leverage on the existing Abacus360 Banking framework with all core functionalities (e.g. audit-proof changes, data drill-downs)
  • re-use existing data and functionalities
  • Calculation Designer

Create and manage customized calculation rules

The Calculation Designer allows users to create, alter, add or remove custom business logic (e.g. in the form of functional units or decision tables). It also provides the functionality of a versioning and historization of custom changes independent of standard content, and users can import required, relevant and already existing data from the Abacus360 Banking standard entities. The functionalities available through the Calculation Designer are integrated into the Abacus360 Banking user interface, including the possibility of embedding proper documentation.

Sample use cases for the Calculation Designer are:

    • The implementation of custom data quality checks and validation rules
    • The extension of the standard calculations to meet extended reporting requirements (e.g., external ad-hoc requests from Regulators (e.g., STE, QIS)
    • Effectively use granular data available within the Abacus360 database to create internal management and risk reports
    • Building of ETL functionalities
  • Data Model Designer

A graphical interface for creating data model elements

The Data Model Designer offers our clients the possibility to create own data model structures through a graphical interface which is fully integrated into the Abacus360 Banking user interface. It allows to design new entities, references, fields, and domains. Similar to the Calculation Designer, the Data Model Designer provides the functionalities of versioning and historization of any custom changes including embedded documentation.

Sample use Cases for the Data Model Designer:

    • The implementation of an own data model to integrate the ETL processes into Abacus360 Banking
    • Mirroring the institutions specific data model and transforming data into the Abacus360 standard data model
    • The extension of the standard data model by new entities to fulfil reporting purposes beyond regulatory reporting
  • Template Designer

Designing and allocating custom report templates based on available data in the Abacus360 database

With the Template Designer, we enable our clients to import custom report templates as well as to define the module and menu structure for embedding these forms into the standard interface. Alternatively, users can create own forms and reports manually through the interface. The Template Designer uses the integrated Allocation Editor with embedded MS Excel like functionalities to define the form and row conditions. Users of the Template Designer also have the option to define free allocation rules and are provided with the functionality of a versioning and historization of any made changes with embedded documentation.

Sample use cases for the Template Designer:

    • Use of granular data within the Abacus360 database to create internal management and risk reports
    • Based on data that is available within the Abacus360 data base, responding to recurring ad hoc requests from regulators (e.g., STE, QIS, Basel monitoring)
    • Add customer specific consistency checks on granular data and validation rules on report data level, allowing extended monitoring of data quality

BCBS 239 ready

Several software features enable banks to integrate Abacus360 in a BCBS 239 compliant IT architecture. The solution can be adapted quickly to new data requirements.

Framework for defining stable reconciliation processes and data-quality checks based on input and result data. It also supports fully automated workflows from the detection to the correction of data quality issues.

Data Dictionary

Provision of an integrated Data Dictionary that is directly linked to the logical data model and thus, by definition, up to date. It is also open for individual extensions.

Data Processing

Functional calculation cores and an enhanced toolset for efficient and mainly automated data preparation to enable internal and external reporting without media breaks.

Data Integration

Integrated ETL framework and support of the flexible adaptation of external data sources (e.g. for ad-hoc reporting).

Information Security

Enhanced authorization concept to protect the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of data. can be adapted quickly to new data requirements.

Alternative Platforms

As financial institutions have different kinds of IT architectures, we offer two platforms for Abacus360 Banking.

Distributed computing with Apache Spark

Abacus360 Banking is based on a three-tier architecture with a clear separation of the GUI, application logic and data management based on the distributed processing of Apache Spark. Apache Spark is a cluster computing framework with high market acceptance for big data projects.

Apache Spark allows for the processing of very high data volumes (several 100 million data records) and has strong vertical and horizontal scaling possibilities. It also shows good scalability for independent processing in parallel processes. Apache Spark therefore allows for the stable processing of large data volumes within short time windows and parallel processing of multiple modules and/or institutions.
